Promoting students’ AI literacy

In the light of the rapid adoption of generative AI tools in educational contexts and workplaces, AI literacy has become a key skill for higher education students to acquire and develop. AI literacy is not only important to prepare students for new demands in their future careers but also to ensure that, as learners, they use AI responsibly and ethically.  This workshop will focus on two main questions: what are the specific competencies that can help higher education students become AI literate, and what can faculty do to support the acquisition of these competencies? We will begin by exploring some definitions of AI literacy and presenting a set of AI literacy competencies for students. In the main part of the session, participants will be invited to discuss and work with a series of activities and resources they could use to promote students’ AI literacy in their courses.
