Creating engaging educational videos

This course will enable you to think in a more powerful way about educational videos and how you can use them to enhance your teaching. The course will focus on the theoretical background and practical applications of video production in the context of creating media for education. Initially, you’ll engage in a week of asynchronous learning focusing on pre-production concepts, followed by a live online session to reflect on these learnings.

Our team will guide you through every stage of media creation, from planning to recording and editing. Along the way, we will answer questions such as:
– When and why should we use video in teaching?
– What makes a video engaging?
– How can you target higher-order thinking skills?

In the hands-on workshop, we will focus on the practical aspects of video production and post-production. This in-person session will provide you with the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned in a real-world setting. We will cover the essentials of production such as, lighting, and audio recording. Post-production skills, such as editing, adding effects, and finalizing your video for publishing, will be a significant part of this workshop, ensuring you have a comprehensive understanding of the entire media creation process.

You will finally be guided through considerations around accessibility when producing content before publishing. With hands-on experience and practical tips, you’ll be equipped to create impactful educational videos that inspire and engage your students. The course will also allow you to discuss your experience of media creation with your peers and reflect on what works and what doesn’t.
